The Centre is owned and run by North Yorkshire County Scout Council.
It is a substantial stone building, originally the Manor House, converted and extended to provide mixed accommodation for adult leader training and other scouting activities, on a self catering basis.
The Centre is also available to other supervised groups.
The charge for use of the Centre includes all facilities irrespective of numbers up to the permitted maximum of 36.

Set in 20 acres of woodland to the east side of York, Snowball offers indoor accommodation for 39 including a disabled suite; 8 campsites; storm/activity hut; grassed arena; outdoor Chapel; campfire circle; agility course; archery and shooting ranges.  

All facilities can be booked separately, for an evening, day, weekend or longer.

We aim to provide a safe environment for Scouts, Guides, youth and adult organisations to enjoy nature, recreational activities and learning through adventure.

Small site alongside Nature Reserve

Birch Hall Scout Campsite is situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty and a great location for both camping or residential use. The site caters mainly for Scout and youth groups and is not available for public bookings.


The secluded 15 acre forest site is made up of a variety of indoor accommodation units sleeping 8, 24 & 46 people. There are also two large camping fields that can accommodate up to 100 campers.


The site is excellent for traditional scouting activities such as backwoodmanship, pioneering and bivouacking. Birch Hall Scout Campsite also has many attractions only a short drive away, including; Dalby Forest, Go Ape, North Yorkshire Moors Railway, Alpamare and many more in the beautiful seaside towns of Scarborough and Whitby.
