An opportunity for Adult Leaders/Network to develop off road bike skills and enjoy a fun day out. You will ride with regular members of the activities team who will be happy to discuss bikes and biking for scouts and many aspects of running other adventurous outdoor activities. The route will take in a chunk of up and plenty of blasts down and will be 'sporting' and lots of fun. There will be flexibility on the route to accommodate different levels of rider skill but participants must be competent cyclists.
Meet at Yorkshire Cycle Hub car park.
The Yorkshire Cycle Hub is located in Fryup Dale near Danby. The Hub is a private business offering high quality facilities to riders, including an excellent cafe, shop and workshop. We are grateful to the Hub for allowing us to use their car park and we encourage participants to explore what the Hub has to offer.
From the East, South and West (via A170). At Kirbymoorside turn North on minor roads via Hutton le Hole and Blakey Ridge. Just beyond the Lion Inn turn R towards Rosedale. After about 1 mile turn L towards Danby and Fryup, after 3 miles towards the bottom of the hill turn R. The centre is up a short track on the left after about half a mile.
From the North. At Stokesley take the A173 towards Great Ayton. After about half a mile turn R onto minor roads via Kildale, Commondale and Castleton to Danby. In Danby head south to Ainthorpe and turn L onto Brook Lane. After about a mile turn L. The centre is up a short track on the left after about half a mile.
Participants may use their own bicycle and equipment subject to the approval of the event leader.
If you intend to use a bike from North Yorkshire Scouts, we need to know your height so we can have the correct equipment available. During the registration process please enter your height in the required field, then please select Credit/Debit Card as your payment method.
If you wish to use your own bike and helmet, please enter "Own Bike" in the Height field on the registration page and choose "Off Line Payment", but do NOT send a payment. On the day of the event please bring with you a spare tube of the correct size for your bike. Part of the route may be on public roads so please ensure you bike is road worthy. Details here:
Bike helmets MUST be worn by all riders. Gloves and eye protection are strongly recommended. Helmets, gloves and eye protection will be provided for all riders using NYS bikes.
Water bottle, packed lunch, first aid kit, sun cream and any personal cycling gear. Waterproof jacket. Warm clothing including trousers. A full change of dry clothes (to be left at the start/finish) is recommended. A small amount of cash may be useful to riders wishing to take advantage of refreshment opportunities on the route.
