The team consists of many qualified instructors who provide a wide range of water-based activities for Scouts and other young people of all ages. They also provide training opportunities for all ages – including for Leaders!

Many of the events are held at Ellerton Lake which is near Scorton (Catterick), but several events are held at other locations in the County during each year. To book Ellerton Park please complete the booking form here and send to the Ellerton Bookings at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Directions to Ellerton can be found here

Apart from Beavers, for most activities, young people can book directly to attend any event. It isn’t necessary for any of your Leaders or parents to have to attend with you.

Details of the individual events available are on the website. Take a look and see if there is something that appeals to you. Try having a go at something different.

The water team had planned a programme for 2021 and were about to release it when we went back into lockdown. It is quite clear that we are not going to be able to start the season on schedule particularly because we will have to open up Ellerton, do the usual safety checks of the centre, boats and equipment and then spend some time preparing the instructors and getting them upto the required skill level and competency expected. It must be remembered that many of our instructors, particularly the sailing team, may not have been on the water since late 2019 which together with the fact that a good number are more advanced in years will mean that our programme this year, when we do get to do it, may look very different from previous years with more emphasis on smallish groups rather than the big events such as the Bellboating days in York and Boroughbridge, the Beaver and parent/guardian days and the Cub days. These will not be forgotten, and we look to be running them as soon as possible. The Water coordination team will be meeting again in mid March, when we hope we will know more about where we are with the pandemic, vaccinations and all the mutations, and will get a programme together which will aim to support Groups getting onto the water either in their own area or at Ellerton. We have added some resources some resources on the County Websiteunder Scouting at home to assist you and your members to get ready to go back on the water as and when we can.

Please check back here for the programme when it is launched meanwhile we have some ideas for Water based activities here
