An introduction to climbing on crags for Scouts and Explorers. No previous experience necessary. Skills lead towards Scout/Explorer Climber badge
From the North (A1(M), J47) or East, take the A59 and follow the bypass to the A61 (Leeds road) roundabout. Take the A658 for Otley.
From the North or West via central Harrogate take the A61 Leeds road to the A658 roundabout and turn right for Otley.
Follow the A658 for approx 2 miles then turn right at a T junction into North Rigton. This is the second junction for North Rigton, the first is a cross roads. On entering the village turn left onto Crag Lane, follow this road for approx 1.5miles. The crag becomes visible on your right near farm buildings, continue until a T junction is reached. Turn right here and park considerately in the lay-by 200m up this road on the right, just before a large left hand bend.
All specialist climbing gear will be provided and instructions given on their best practice. This will include harnesses and helmets for those who don't have their own.
Warm clothing including a pair of trousers to climb in. Fleece to keep warm whilst stood around. Stiff soled approach shoes as the area around and on approach to the crag can be wet and muddy.
Large (35l) rucksack, waterproof jacket and trousers, hat, gloves, trainers to climb in. Flask and water bottle (1 litre), packed lunch, first aid kit, sun cream and any personal climbing gear.
