21AW009 Paddlesport Half Day am

To help with infection control all this autumns sessions are based on Group booking of 6 persons per session and priced accordingly. Group registration only.

Whether you have never paddled before or are experienced this is the session for you

About The Course

Paddle Sport is FUN, EXCITING and EXHILERATING. This is  half day event introducing you to the world of Paddle Sport will help to give you the skill and confidence to paddle on flat, sheltered water in a kayak, Standup Paddle Board or a canoe or to develop your paddling. The session will cover paddling activities to progress any existing skills all in a safe relaxed atmosphere. Successful completetion may lead to the gaining of a Scout Stage Paddlesport badge and British Canoeing (BC) Paddle Awards in the future.

Is It For Me / What Can I Achieve from this and future events

Scout Paddlesport Badges - these are split into 4 stages and can be acheived alongside the British Canoeing (BC) awards in Paddlepower/Star Awards and reflect progress from the participants starting level to the highest skill award levels.

Paddle Awards- These awards are split into four progressive levels based on 24 topics which are grouped into Safety Awareness, Paddling Skills, Varied Experiences, and Supporting Knowledge
Therefore, training and assessment will be tackled in both kayaks AND canoes, both as an individual and in tandem craft.

I'm new to Paddle Sport?

As a Cub or Scout you will start on the path of the BC Paddle Power Scheme.
As an Explorer you will start on the BC Star Award scheme.
If you are a member of the Scout Network or a Leader, then you will undertake the BC Star Awards.

Your session

On arrival, and after a centre briefing, you will have a short discussion with your coach about what you want out of the day and the format of the session. Then it's on the water for lots of FUN, learning new skills or refining old. Feedback on your achievements' will be given by your coach at the end of the day with an action plan on where to go next.

Facilities

There are toilets at our centre. Currently there are no changing facilities (due to COVID precautions)
There is ample car parking.

Kit List

You will need at least two sets of clothing to get wet in (clothes made of synthetic material or thermals are best- NO JEANS) and a pair of old trainers together with a set of waterproofs (jacket and trousers) to help keep the wind off as well as your travelling clothes and shoes. A towel is also essential.
Also don't forget a drink and packed lunch- hot and cold water will be available if you need it to make up your drink.

Further information & Logbooks

Please bring any logbooks or award books with you on the day so that they can be signed by your instructor to record your progress. If not they are available on the day.

The course capacity is 6, the minimum number required as at the 11th September 2021 is 6.
