First Aid Training - Modules 10A & B. The good news is that HQ has approved the extension of the blended approach to training until August of this year. Anyone that isn’t aware of what this is all about, the blended approach is when instead of completing the learning all in one go, you undertake some virtual learning. The course comprises of the following parts:
eLearning This is the first element learners will complete and this is done in their own time through a learning platform which tracks their progress and completion of knowledge checks as they move through the learning. This element will take approximately 2.5hrs to complete.
Online facilitated session The second element is an online facilitated session lasting 2.5-3hrs where a first aid trainer takes the learners through some more detailed knowledge checking exercises and discussions. This can be delivered face-to-face, subject to any Covid readiness levels, but the content must meet the outcomes specified for this session. Once complete, this is sufficient to validate module 10A.
The e-learning can be completed with Hampshire Scouts and the North Yorkshire Scouts Training Team offer courses at various times. Please contact your Local Training Manager for details.
Following on from these virtual sessions you must then complete Module 10B Practical session (15-30 mins) to complete the practical skills (Assessment of unconscious casualty, CPR Adult & CPR Child - compression only).
Of course should you wish to, you can still attend a 6-hour face-to-face course run by the North Yorkshire Scouts Training Team. All courses offered by North Yorkshire Scouts can be found on our Eventbrite page.
Refresher Training. After much debate, HQ have now withdrawn the option to undergo a 2-hour refresher course as it was felt that 2 hours was not long enough to refresh participants on all areas of the syllabus and allow time for practicing the skills. This means that to renew your first aid you must complete a full 6-hour course, either blended or face-to-face as explained above.
Manager & Supporter Training
This training is organised and delivered by the North East Region and not North Yorkshire Scouts. Due to many logistical challenges it has not been possible to move forward with this as quickly as was initially hoped. However in the coming months this will hopefully be resolved. Meanwhile, anyone who still requires these modules to complete their training might be interested in looking at Hampshire Scouts Manager & Supporter training who are running a series of webinars which will allow you to gain the learning element and then you just need to validate your learning. Hampshire have said they are happy for anyone to join.
