COLIN and LARRY both get C.C. Commendations
This is what the County Commissioner said on giving out these Commendations:
Colin Plaxton - York Minster District - Assistant District Commissioner and Active Support Member
I am delighted to award you my personal commendation in recognition of the outstanding support, dedication and commitment that you have given to the York Scouts & Guides St George’s Day Parade and Service over the past 16 years. The considerable commitment that you willingly undertake as the Parade Marshal for such a large event is testament to your enduring loyalty to Scouting. I know that such an event demands a great deal of planning, patience and skill to ensure that a memorable parade is delivered year-on-year and your inspirational leadership as the Parade Marshal, alongside your dedicated team, is crucial to the success and safety of the event. Indeed, your meticulous attention to detail, wealth of Scouting experience and people skills of the highest quality are such that the event organising team, as well as the North Yorkshire Scouting County, owe you a tremendous debt of gratitude.
In extending you my sincere thanks and appreciation, I also pass on those from fellow Scouters from across North Yorkshire who have witnessed the excellent York Scouts & Guides St George’s Day Parade & Service. This commendation is richly deserved and you should be justifiably proud of what you have achieved and delivered for the young people of York and beyond.
Larry (Lawrence) Gray - York Minster District - County Adviser (Bands) and Active Support Member
It is with great pleasure that I award you my personal commendation for your outstanding support, dedication and commitment over the past 45 years to the York Scouts & Guides St George’s Day Parade. Your inspirational leadership as the City Bands Adviser and also County Band Adviser, taking the lead in coordinating the bands for this annual event is crucial to its success. Your passion and enthusiasm not only for the St George’s Day Parade but Scout bands more widely, have inspired generations of young people and adults. Indeed, the current Scouting focus on giving young people skills for life is something that you have been undertaking for many years and for which you should be justifiably proud.
The band preparations for the annual St George’s Day Parade are considerable and every year without fail your professionalism and meticulous attention to detail comes to the fore. The bands are an integral and essential part of the parade; their contribution and success, however, very much a result of your leadership and dedication. This is especially evident at the culmination of the parade and the performance of the magnificent ‘Swing March’ which demands practice and many rehearsals, all of which take place under your leadership and expert eye.
As you pass on this annual commitment after 45 years of outstanding service, you not only have my sincere thanks and appreciation, but those of fellow Scouters from across North Yorkshire and beyond. I am delighted to award you this commendation.
Many, many congratulations to both - from ALL your Scouting Colleagues
