ST GEORGE’S DAY PROCESSION, YORK -SUN 28 APRIL 2019
The York Scout & Guide St George’s Day and Founder’s Day Service and Procession took place on Sunday 28 April 2019 and is regarded as the largest in UK.
Report by kind permission of North Yorkshire (South) Girlguiding:
Over 2000 Scouts, Cubs, Beavers, Guides, Brownies, Rainbows and their leaders from the two Scout Districts of York Ebor and York Minster and the Girlguiding County of North Yorkshire South processed from the Eye of York to York Minster led by the band of the Yorkshire Volunteers. At the Minster a combined St George’s Day and Founder’s Day service was led by Reverend Francis Loftus.
In attendance at the service and receiving the salute in Duncombe Place, on the procession back to the Eye of York was the Lord Lieutenant of North Yorkshire, the York Civic Party, Rachael Maskell MP and representatives of North Yorkshire and City of York Councils.
Volunteers from Scouting and Guiding have been working hard behind the scenes for almost a year to make the ‘Those were the days’ service special which concluded with all participants renewing their promises. A special mention goes out to the team of organisers for all their efforts, including Margaret Gaygan who was awarded the County Commissioner’s Commendation from North Yorkshire Scouts (see separate article on this website)
