19A059 TOHUNGA Expedition Weekend

Harrogate & Nidderdale District Event - Open to all eligible Scouts in the County

TOHUNGA - For younger Scout teams of 4-7

This is a 2-day expedition event for teams of 4-7 Scouts, enabling them to put into pratice the skills developed through the Outdoor, Team Work and Team Leader Challenge awards. Teams will follow a given route of approximately 6-8 miles per day through various manned checkpoints. Each team is required to carry or wear the appropriate equipment for a day hike in adventurous country. Upon arrival at the campsite each team is responsible for pitching their own tents, cooking their meals, tidying up afterwards and striking camp. The responsibility for the delivery to the camp site and removal from it of all the gear for the overnight stop (tents, stoves, food, etc.) lies with their group.

Participation in this event will enable the Scouts to complete sections of the Navigator Stage 2 or 3, and gain the experience they require before tackling the expedition elements of both the Expedition Challenge and Hill Walker badge (details here).

To be eligible for the trophy team members must be under 13 years of age on 28 Feb 2019 and the team must complete the hike unaccompanied.  In the opinion of the leader ALL Scouts entered must be physically and mentally capable of completing the event. Teams consisting of Scouts and Explorer Scouts must enter the TEKO TEKO or TAHWIRI competition. Places are available for 25 teams.

Cost for the weekend will be £30 per person.   This covers camping fees, radio team, administration costs, badges, hire of support vehicles and staffing expenses.
